If you’ve been following me on Instagram or Facebook, you will have noticed that I have been sharing my weekly meal plans with my grocery haul. I thought I would take it further, share it on my blog and link to the recipes, or page number in the book I have been using. Sharing is caring am I right? One last request, if you have a go-to recipe, please comment on the post and I will try and include it in our meal plan to try out.
Before I begin, let me provide a bit of background. I recently went through Jordan Page’s Budget Boot Camp program and then it paid for itself on my first week of applying my grocery budget. No word of a lie, I was spending $1,500 – $2,000 a month on groceries, only to waste so much or not use the products I was buying. I was buying because it was on sale, but not because I was being intentional on using it or planned to use it. I just figured, oh it is such a good price, I will buy it.
After I watched all the videos, I decided to start applying a budget for our life and to start with groceries. It’s our biggest expense, and it was out of control. It was time to turn it into a fixed expense. That is when I decided to try the $100/person budget. At first, I thought, that is going to be impossible. I took the budget as a guideline and figured out how to make it work for us, here in Canada. First of all, it’s $100/person/week, but it only includes foods. I do not include items such as dog food, toilet paper, laundry detergent, cleaning products and so on.
After 7 weeks of challenging myself, I can say that I did it and did it even better!! On average, I was spending $140/week (Christmas week was not included as I didn’t want to restrict it for holidays as a personal choice). I bet I could do even better if I really stuck to using everything in my freezer, fridge and pantry. However, I like to introduce change into my life one step at a time. Here are our weekly budgets for November/December with as many links as I could do to help you find the recipes.

Week 4 (this is the week I started)
- Slow Cooker Swedish Meatballs (from Six Sisters Standard Meal Plans) with rice and frozen vegetables

- Instant Pot Honey Garlic Chicken Legs with mashed potatoes and carrots
- Ham & cheese hash brown casserole
- Pulled pork & buns with veggies

- Sneaky Spaghetti sauce and spaghetti

22nd – Ordered from McDonald’s and did a Twinkle Tour Drive
23rd – Pork Loin (from the previous week)
24th – Ham Lunch with a large selection of cold salads and baking
25th – Omelette Lunch & ordered Chinese Food
26th – Turkey supper with all the fixings
27th – Turkey stuffing casserole
28th – Ham steaks & oven fried potatoes
29th – Ham Tetrazzini
